Train for Half Marathon [✓]

One of my bigger goals for 2014 is to run my first half marathon. I’m going to sign up for the Newburyport Half Marathon. After reading a few reviews and looking at the different options out there, this seemed like a great first half. The route itself is pretty flat; I think there is only one hill. I’ve also heard from past runners that this half is actually really pretty and its a great time of year to be running (June 1st is the date) but lets be completely honest, I picked this run because they are giving out medals!

I searched the internet and found a great walk/run training plan for my first half marathon. It seems like it has been ages since I ran and I get excited picturing myself crossing that finish line, getting a silver cape (I have no idea what those things are for but I see everyone wearing one!) and wearing that shiny metal around my neck, all while my boyfriend carries me back to the car!

I’ll be tracking my weekly runs and stick to (or as close as I can) the 20 week program. My first training run is next Tuesday. I don’t care what my time is (well I kinda do, I need to finish it in 4 hours or I don’t get a medal) my goal is to cross that finish line and to enjoy the ride!

New Year, New Resolutions

I may be a few days late but its that time of year again, where we sit down to think about what things we wanted to get done last year (and realize we didn’t do any of them) and focus on the things we want to accomplish this year. My list is lengthy, will require a lot of determination and something I have to actively think about each day but I cannot wait to cross each bullet point off!

  • Travel More – Disney World and Las Vegas are on the top of that bucket list
  • Save More – A combination between 401k and my savings account
  • Go on at least one date night once a month with the BF
  • Pay off credit card debt
  • Switch to tea – I’m drinking an iced coffee as I type this…clearly its going to take some time
  • Sweat everyday and don’t be afraid to try that new class or do something different
  • Run a half marathon
  • Pack lunches for work – I need to realize how much money I am wasting!
  • Find a new job where I am happy and excited about what I do

This list is never going to finish itself if I just sit back and say “oh I can do it next time”. I said that to myself all last year and looking back, I don’t think I even think I finished half of it. I’m going to have to give up a few things, like take out 3 or 4 times a week, to financially achieve these goals and learn how to better budget my money. I’m excited to see where 2014 takes me and I can’t wait to make the most of it.
